West Duke Building

Description

On Sunday, December 14, 2025, a flood occurred in the West Duke Building on East Campus due to a chilled water coil that froze and ruptured an air handling unit in the building's attic. The building is currently closed for restoration. Completion of building life safety components is expected by spring break, to allow partial occupancy of offices in areas not affected. Full building restoration is expected by summer break.

Building occupants in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, ROTC Army, the Kenan Institute for Ethics, the Department of Philosophy, and Duke’s Program in Education. Classes and other activities previously scheduled for the spring semester in the West Duke Building have been relocated. For location information on classes and activities previously scheduled for the West Duke Building during this period, please contact the organizing department.
